Rain, Rain, go away!!

We set off from Mitchell yesterday with the plan to head off westward to Quilpie on the way to Birdsville. Or designated stop at Cooladdi was as scheduled.

Upon stoping at a free camp there I discovered that one of the water pipe hose elbows had been fractured by a rock on the road. Spares were 90 k back in Charleville. Tried to do a road side fix and failed as this is the hose that supplies the sink, shower etc and the pressure from the pump was too much for the fix. First problem.

During the night it flogged down with rain and we had a small river running through our little camp spot. Got up in the morning and headed back to Charleville for spares and to check the weather over the net. Quilpie had 23mm of rain, Birdsville and Windorah were due to cop rain over the next few days. The roads out there would be impassable in those conditions. So we headed north up the Landsborough Highway toward Blackall and Barcaldine. Would not be surprised to see the Birdsville Development Track closed in the next day or two.

So Birdsville will have to wait. We are sitting in Tambo at the moment (above pic) recharging van batteries and doing a bit of washing in a caravan park.

Longreach here we come!! Wanted to go there anyway!!!!
